Fundamentals for Medical Assistants is a review course to help individuals prepare for the Registered Medical Assistant Certification Examination. This course includes an introduction module, five content modules, and two attempts at the RMA Practice Exam.
Note: Each content module contains knowledge checks, a quiz, resources, and references. Modules do not need to be completed in one sitting.
Module 0: Introduction
This module reviews how to navigate the course, describes the module structure, and lists other resources to prepare for the medical assistant certification exam.
Module 1: Anatomy and Physiology
This module is split into two parts.
- Part A: Reviews the structure and function of body systems including skeletal, muscular, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, gastrointestinal, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, integumentary, and the special senses.
- Part B: Reviews diseases and disorders, wellness and nutrition, and medical terminology.
Module 2: Administrative Medical Assisting
This module reviews administrative medical assisting including insurance, financial bookkeeping, medical receptionist and scheduling, medical law and ethics, and human relations.
Module 3: Clinical Medical Assisting
This module reviews clinical medical assisting including asepsis, sterilization, instruments, laboratory procedures, and minor surgery.
Module 4: Clinical Patient Interaction
This module reviews clinical patient interaction including patient education, vital signs and measurement, physical examinations, therapeutic modalities, laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, and first aid, CPR, and emergency response.
Module 5: Pharmacology
This module reviews drugs, prescriptions, medication safety, methods of medication administration, parenteral administration, and allergy testing.
