Revealing Hematology Cases: Through the Microscope (CE: 1.0)
Course Overview:
Blood disorders can hide in plain sight. Explore five educational case studies in this MicroLearning and sharpen your hematology interpretation skills. Examine peripheral blood smears through an interactive microscope simulation to identify key cellular morphologies and correlate laboratory findings with real-world patient presentations. The case studies are based on patterns observed in real cases and use textbook values for illustrative purposes.
Learning Objectives:
- Interpret hematology laboratory findings, including CBC results, differential counts, and peripheral blood smear morphology, to distinguish normal and abnormal hematologic conditions
- Recognize and identify key microscopic findings associated with common and critical hematologic disorders, including reactive lymphocytes, atypical lymphocyte populations, drepanocytes, target cells, intraerythrocytic parasites, and blast cells
- Correlate patient history, clinical presentation, and laboratory data to support diagnostic decisions and determine appropriate follow-up testing for hematologic diseases and disorders
