Course Overview:
This MicroLearning introduces emotional intelligence (EI) as a foundational professional skill for healthcare workers. In six mini-lessons, learners will explore core concepts and the neuroscience behind EI, develop strategies for self-awareness and emotional regulation, and strengthen empathy and patient-centered communication. Learners will also examine how EI shapes teams dynamics, conflict resolution, and ethical decision-making. Throughout the course, learners will engage in scenarios and interactive case studies to practically apply EI frameworks and concepts. By the end, learners will create a self-development plan to consider how to continue fostering emotional intelligence.

Lauren McLean, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC, CIMHP is a clinical trainer with a local mental health authority, part-time faculty for a clinical mental health counseling graduate program, and a Licensed Professional Counselor - Board approved supervisor for the state of Texas. She graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, obtained a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from The University of Georgia, and completed an M.A. in Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Sam Houston State University. She has worked in the field of mental health since 2005 mostly in community mental health and non-profits with some work in schools. She has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in various capacities including individual and group counseling, case management, and completing diagnostic assessments. Her primary areas of interest in the field of counseling include chronic illness and mental health, trauma, 2SLGBTQIAP+, and working with underprivileged clients.
