Course Overview:

​​This Microlearning course presents the fundamental structures of the cardiovascular system and how they support continuous blood circulation throughout the body. It explores the structure of the heart, including its walls, valves, chambers, and blood vessels, and follows the path of blood through pulmonary, systemic, coronary circulation, and blood pressure. The course also explains how the heart’s electrical conduction system generates rhythmic impulses and coordinates contractions to maintain efficient blood flow.​ 

Learning Objectives:

  • ​​Identify the major structures of the cardiovascular system and describe their roles in supporting blood circulation 
  • ​Describe the pathway of blood through the heart and differentiate between systemic, pulmonary, and coronary circulation, and 
  • ​Discuss how the cardiac cycle and the heart’s electrical conduction system work simultaneously to regulate the heartbeat and blood flow.​

​​Jason has worked in many areas of health care throughout his career. His work experiences include working as a medical assistant, health center administrator, clinical operations director, and director of physician operations within Duke, UNC, and private practices in the Triangle. Jason is employed with the Duke University Health System as an associate administrator for network development. He holds an MBA from Northeastern University and a Doctorate of Health Sciences from A.T. Stills University. Jason has taught medical assisting for local community colleges and is an associate professor in the Health Administration program at the University of Arizona Global Campus.
