Dental Radiography: Capturing Quality Dental Images (CE: 1.0)

Course Overview:

Understanding dental imaging is essential for producing clear, accurate, and diagnostic radiographs. This MicroLearning explores both intraoral and extraoral imaging techniques, highlighting their purposes, procedures, and applications in patient care. Learners will examine how intraoral images, such as periapical, bitewing, and occlusal views, capture fine details within the oral cavity, while extraoral images, like panoramic and cephalometric radiographs, provide a broader view of craniofacial structures. The series also covers key elements of image quality, including contrast, density, sharpness, and distortion, and explains how to recognize and correct positioning errors that can impact diagnostic accuracy. Interactive scenarios and visual examples guide learners in applying imaging principles to real-world clinical situations, helping to build confidence and precision in radiographic techniques.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key factors that affect image quality, including contrast, density, sharpness, and distortion
  • Recognize common positioning errors and their impact on diagnostic accuracy, and
  • Describe the difference between intraoral and extraoral imaging techniques and their clinical applications.
